Question: Why do some starters have a fixed gender (male or female) while others are random?

Answer:
When you purchase a starter pack, the gender can either be fixed or random, depending on the type of starter:

  • If the gender is not specified, such as with Limited Edition Starters, it means that the starter’s gender will be randomly assigned as male or female at the time of the egg rez.
  • If the pack clearly states 2 males and 2 females, then the genders are fixed and will not be random.

Important: A Limited Edition Starter can be sold in two ways:

  1. As a pack with a fixed gender (e.g., 1 male + 1 female), so you know exactly what you are getting.
  2. As a random egg, where the gender is determined at the moment of rez, not at hatching.

We remind you that purchasing a Limited Edition Starter is an option to guarantee a breeder an edition-limited butterfly for their collection, but it is not a required purchase.
